Dominican Republic January 1, 2009

Dominican Republic January 1, 2009
Well its official the New Year has begun and we have been blessed to ring it in an hour before the United States. As I reflect on this past year I am reminded of God’s goodness and as I am in a foreign country I am being challenged with what God has in store for the future. A life of faith is so exciting….so with that being said I would like to recap our first official full day here in the DR. We woke early to find an uncanny silence that I have never experienced here [even the chickens and dogs were still asleep] Jen and Sarah labored intensely over breakfast for 13 people[keep in mind we purchased our goods at the equivalent of a Dominican WAWA store where the slogan “less is more” really is true] and having very little to work with God multiplied and we were all filled. We then spent time in worship and prayer and sharing scripture. Noah shared Col. 3:12-17 “….put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another…”and it goes on to say in verse 14 “…But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” God used this scripture throughout the day to encourage us. We set out after breakfast to visit house to house on the mountain [La Montania].
We visited Josue one of our sponsor kids(our Dominican son) we spent a lot of time with his family Berky(mom) Victor(dad) they asked us to pray for them Victor is a Pastor of a non-denominational church. They asked we pray for property for the ministry and he was fascinated with the sound of a rainstick and wants to incorporate it into worship. We prayed that God would lead the ministry and provide for them. They minster to 65 plus kids weekly at a special youth service they have on Monday nights. We saw Sergio a child sponsored by us and Christian Surfer’s Fellowship. It was such a joy to see his smiling face. We came upon three gentlemen who weren’t drunk and began to talk with them. I began to share the plan of salvation with them. Carlos one who looked pretty rough was a man that I lead to the Lord on my first trip to the DR in April 2007. His name is written in my Bible. I asked him how his wife and son are and he began to explain that his drinking problem caused a divorce and his wife is now living in the Capitol. Noah and I shared the truth in love with him and his amigo Pedro. They both responded Pedro to a first time commitment to Christ and Carlos a rededication to live for Him. Please continue to pray for God’s will to be accomplished as we desire to serve our Lord faithfully while we are here.
